Grammar/Punctuation Mini-lesson

My group and I did our mini lesson on MLA in text citiations. We did it on this because in past essay’s many of our classmates have struggled to properly do this. I have identified my problems and now know how to fix them and properly insert MLA in-text citations in my essay. Sometimes I would not include the author in my signal phrase and then leave it out when I put the page number in parentheses. So going forward I am well aware on how to include a in text citation in variety of way. For example, a proper in-text citation would look like this with one author.
As such, Randall explains, “ Wendel B Grumpy’s legs as unnatural stringy beans” (21). Or I could do it like, “As such, he explains, “Wendel B Grumpy’s legs are as unnatural of stringy beans”(Randall 21).
These are ways I can cite my quotes in the text. Also, I discovered a good way to stop mistakes with in-text citation. First, I have to make sure that either the author is stated leading up the quote, either in the sentence before hand, or like this, “Henry says,”. If the author is not stated their, I have to make sure he is stated in the parentheses after I use the qoute, like so, (Henry 21).
One good example is from my current essay number 3, “ The second step in Duhigg’s process is the most important in the method of change through social media. Duhigg’s states, “It grows because of the habits of a community, and the weak ties that holds neighborhoods and clans together”(87).”
A few other useful ways of in-text citation that can be applied to future papers is, when you have 2 or more sources from the name author. In the case you must state the author, either in the signal phrase or in the parenthesis, along with the title of the source. For example, Spencer, when talking about how much he really loves boots, says, “I really love this boots; I want to wear them all the time.” (Icarly; a nation phenomenon). Or, I would do, In the explanation of the text, he says, (Those boots are so magnificent with those socks my dude”(Spencer, Icarly 44). In my essay, I do have 2 different sources with the same author, So here is how I cited one of the sources, “Bill Mckibben, as mentioned earlier, fights for climate change awareness, and has a social change theory too that he mentions in “Do the Math.” He states, “[M]ake a little noise, be a little uncomfortable, push other people to be a little uncomfortable” (1:00).
Overall, I actually learned alot from creating this lesson and going forward will be much better at in-text MLA citation.
